Ingredients
- 1 cup (240 ml) water
- 1-2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves (or 1-2 teaspoons dried mint leaves)
- 1 tea bag (optional, for additional flavor, can use green tea or black tea)
- 1-2 teaspoons honey or sugar (to taste, optional)
- Lemon slice (for garnish, optional)
- Mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Steps
1. Boil Water:
- Heat 1 cup of water in a kettle or pot until it reaches a rolling boil.
2. Prepare the Mint:
- If using fresh mint, gently bruise the mint leaves to release their essential oils. You can do this by pressing them with the back of a spoon or your fingers.
- Place the mint leaves in your teacup or teapot. If using dried mint, simply add the dried mint leaves.
3. Prepare Additional Tea:
- If you want to add an extra layer of flavor, place 1 tea bag (green tea or black tea) in the teacup or teapot along with the mint leaves.
4. Steep the Tea:
- Pour the boiling water over the mint leaves (and tea bag, if using).
- Let it steep for 5-7 minutes. Adjust the steeping time for a lighter or stronger flavor.
5. Remove Tea Bag and Mint Leaves:
- Remove the tea bag (if used) and strain out the mint leaves using a tea strainer if you have not used a teapot.
6. Sweeten the Tea:
- Add honey or sugar to taste, if desired. Stir until fully dissolved.
7. Garnish and Serve:
- Garnish with a lemon slice and a few fresh mint leaves if you like.
- Serve hot, or let it cool and serve over ice for a refreshing iced mint tea.
